Kronik Vs. Final Fantasy
Rated 3.5 / 5 stars April 17, 2005
Good, but presentation was sloppy
I thought it was good, but the technical aspects kept getting on my nerves. Some things it could have used:
A preloader: Always makes a flash look polished.
A save system: Yes, I know that if you die the consequences aren't that bad, but any good RPG should have one, and it can be annoying if you accidently go somewhere you didn't want to.
Set HP limits: A game where HP loss is capped at 0 always looks better than one where it dips into the negatives. Also,(this seemed to be a non issue with Kronic), when a monster heals itself it shouldn't be able to go higher than it's original HP.
Error when speaking to people?: When I tried to speak to anyone I couldn't figure out how to scroll down to see what else they were saying.
Tweak monster strength: The first time I tried it I didn't encounter any monsters up to the second boss, where, of course, I got destroyed. Frustrated, I closed it and tried again, and this time I encountered monsters that were killing me on their first hit as soon as i took a single step. Also, after the third boss(at this point I had spent alot of time leveling up to 15), everything was destroying me.
Increase usefullness of healing: The healing skill, I found, healed me just enough that by the time I got my turn back any enemy could have done more damage than I just repaired.
Explain transistions: After killing the second and third bosses, the change in location was very wtf provoking. Particularily the third one, where I was just exploring the town when BAM! suddenly I'm in a boss fight, and now I'm in some collapsing palace area. A note as to what happened there would have been nice.
I thought it was good, but all the technical aspects kept getting on my nerves.

Fun, but fatal AI error?
Someone else seems to have encountered this, the game let me take its queen with my pawn, and it gained absolutely nothing from the exchange. I don't believe it even had a very good reason to bring the queen out.
I liked the touch of being able to click and drag pieces or click once and click the destination. Except for the queen problem, the game was a fair opponent; I was expecting a crappy setup from a flash game and because of that I got destroyed the first time I played. Kudos on that.

Wow, I just wasted so much time on that.
That was great. I turned colors down to 2 and lost for reasons unknown(only 58 blocks on screen, maybe because difficulty hit 10? final score of 45670). For such a simple game, that was incredibly fun. I liked the added touch of entire grey rows self destructing.
Isn't there a Nintendo DS game with this concept? Meteos, I think it is? It's a little sad(from the game industry's point of view) that it can be put into a flash game and be so awesome. Great work. The only bug I noticed was that the amount of rows that would shoot up from horizontal links seemed to be random, sometimes only a few, sometimes half the screen.

Ha?
Okay, I got the first joke. The second was rushed, so I replayed it to hear what it said. It didn't make any sense at all at first, so I went to your site and watched the trailer. I think I get it... that one girl left her a note to stop trying to steal the other girl from her as seems to be the basis of your story, and Pepper is oblivious to the fact that she's the only person that would have done something like that? Not all that funny.
Okay, I guess if someone had been a fan of your work they would have gotten that, but from my quick tour of your site it looks like previews are as far as you've gotten, so this looks like it was basically a ploy to get people interested in your site :P

Not as good as the first, but still great
I suppose there's a certain novelty lost in sequels that's inevitable, but that aside, it was great. Not sure if you intended it to loop from the start or the point where the words start, but I think it would have done better to start at the very begining.

Good work
That was a good flash movie, nice graphic and audio work. The 'world engulfed by war' idea is a little old though, so it wasn't all that appealing to watch another, albeit very good, movie. My major complaint is the made up language you used, okay, so you didn't want to base it on earth, but you could have at least had them speak english. There's no reason to watch a guy on the phone ordering a weapon to be launched, for example, when he isn't even speaking a real language.
